Saturday Night Live writer Katie Rich suspended from show for tweeting that ten-year-old Barron Trump will be ‘this country’s first home-school shooter’
A US comedian who cruelly mocked Donald Trump's young son has been booted off her hit TV show.
Katie Rich has been suspended from Saturday Night Live after a bizarre dig at ten-year-old Barron Trump.
Rich, 33, originally sniped: "Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter."
But after a wave of online outrage, she quickly deleted her Twitter account only to return and offer a grovelling apology.
She posted: "I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions and offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry.”
And now sources say the sketch writer has been suspended from the show.
The programme has been a fierce critic of Trump over the past year.
NBC has yet to make a comment.
Trump's youngest child was subjected to cruel online taunts following his appearance at Donald Trump's inauguration on Friday.
Critics picked on the youngster's 'awkward' high-five with his mother Melania and his apparent boredom in the face of the event's pomp and ceremony.
But a number of high-profile figures have jumped to the defence of the President's son.
Bill and Hillary Clinton's daughter Chelsea - who also lived in the White House as a child - tore into online critics.
She tweeted: "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids."
