Yet the Twitter user was defiant - even complaining when his address had been revealed.
Elliott died on Sunday days after a last-ditch fund-raising drive raised £30,000 for him.
But it was too late and in a post on the fundraising page she wrote: “With a heart shattered into a million pieces, my very own true warrior passed away this morning.
“It was my absolute privilege to be chosen as his mum. He was my entire world and always will be.
“We are going to do what Elliott would have wanted with your donations and set up a fund in his name for research into this horrible, evil disease. That was what he wanted, to help others.
“If we can save just one life, then he would have been elated. Thanks to you all from the bottom of our hearts.”
Manchester City joined hundreds of people on social media paying their respects to Elliott.
A tweet from City bosses read: “Everyone at #mcfc is saddened to learn of the passing of Elliott Fernandez. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
Elliott is a lifelong Manchester City fan and spent nine years as a ball-boy at the Etihad Stadium before he fell ill.
He even placed the ball-on-the-spot for the corner which led to Edin Dzeko’s equaliser in the Blues’ legendary 3-2 win over QPR in 2012, which won them the Premier League title.
The teenager, from Manchester, was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma cancer back in February last year.
He was left fighting for life in intensive care with doctors saying he was unlikely to pull through.
But he defied the odds and after learning to walk and eat again gradually battled his way back to health.
He even managed to walk onto the pitch at the Etihad before the Blues’ game with Everton last October.
But Elliott suffered a relapse over Christmas with fluid on his brain and signs of cancer found on both his liver and spine.
Specialists delivered the heartbreaking news that there was nothing they could do as he was unable to have any more Chemotherapy.
His family launched the fundraising drive, for £100,000, in the hope of sending him to Stuttgart for treatment.
Ryan Taylor Fox said: “He was such a kind person. RIP, Elliott. No more pain. Always a true blue. Goodnight, pal.”
Lianne Graham posted: “You were a fighter, Elliott. Rest in peace. No more pain. So sorry we couldn’t get you to Germany. Such a clever, amazing young man, taken far too soon.”
