Donald Trump belts out Sinatra classic as he celebrates at three glam inauguration balls in Washington
The newly-elected President thanked his supporters, as he proclaimed: 'We did it'
PRESIDENT Donald Trump sung along to Frank Sinatra's My Way as he danced with his First Lady at the Freedom Inaugural Ball - on the night he made history.
The Republican and his wife Melania spent the evening at the Liberty and Freedom Balls at the Washington Convention Center before later arriving at a gala for the armed forces.
Earlier he had been sworn in as the 45th President of the USA after taking the Oath of Office.
Ms Trump stunned in a Hervé Pierre gown, as her husband told a room full of supporters: "Well, we did it".
He added: "Today we had a great day. People that weren't so nice to me were saying that we did a really good job today.
"They hated to do it, but they did it and I respect that. I respect that but I have to say the crowd was unbelievable today."
Hundreds of thousands of Trump supporters and protesters turned out in Washington DC to watch events unfold yesterday.
The Republican replaced Barack Obama after his shock defeat of Democrat rival Hillary Clinton in November’s election.
Following the historic event, the Trumps made a grand entrance to the Liberty Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
They took their first dance as POTUS and FLOTUS to the classic My Way - before being joined on stage by Vice President Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence.
The whole Trump family then joined in on the fun as they celebrated with the billionaire businessman.
Earlier, Melania had spoken with troops at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan via video conference, pledging: "We will fight. We will win. And we will make America great again."
In his inauguration speech, President Trump launched a blistering attack on the Washington elite as he stood in front of Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush and President Obama.
He said: "For too long, a small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have bore the cost.
"Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth.
"Politicians prospered but the jobs left and the factories closed.
"The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.
"Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs.
"And while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.
"That all changes starting right here and right now, because this moment is your moment.
"It belongs to you. It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America.
"This is your day. This is your celebration. And this, the United States of America, is your country.
"What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people."
But not everyone was happy - as the inauguration sparked controversy around the world.
One protester was even caught on camera screaming “no” at the top of her voice just as the 70-year-old was sworn into office.
In the clip, the depressed demonstrator — later identified as Jessica Starr — can be seen sitting on the ground silently, with her legs crossed, as Trump prepares to take the oath of office.
Suddenly she lets out a hysterical scream - prompting the video to go viral.
On the eve of Trump being sworn into office, protesters came out in force across the US.
Secret Service forces and armed cops lined the streets around the White House as protesters gathered downtown.
Hollywood A-listers Robert De Niro, Mark Ruffalo and Alec Baldwin slammed Trump at the New York rally.
De Niro took to the stage saying he was pleased to be there "with all of you and all of my overrated friends" in reference to Trump's recent criticism of actress Meryl Streep.
The actor - who has said he would love to punch Trump - continued to mock the billionaire mogul by reading out some Trump-style fake tweets about himself.
