HOOK, DINE AND SHOCKER

Shocked carer finds ‘metal fish hook’ in Aldi fish supper as he ate his dinner

A CARER claims he found a piece of metal "shaped like a HOOK" in his Aldi fish supper.

Ethan Dickens, of Northampton, had bought the breaded fish from his local supermarket after a day taking spent care of his mother last week.

The 36-year-old cooked the chunky cod fillets, made by Northern Catch, and got ready to tuck in.

As he ate his dinner, he said he noticed a shiny piece of metal poking through the flesh.

After investigating he claims he found what looked like a small hook or metal staple, about a couple of centimetres long, in the food he had just prepared.

He said: "When I first started to eat my fish I had a little bit of it, about two forkfulls, and noticed this bit of metal in it - what I can only describe as a piece of metal shaped like a hook - I thought if that went down my throat and got stuck it would've been not good.

"What I've found, it it looks a little bit like a hook or like a steel piece for boxes.

"If I wasn't looking properly that could've ended badly.

"I was pretty shocked to find metal in my dinner and it put me right off it so I didn't bother finishing it."

He decided to keep the metal in a kitchen cupboard after taking photographs of what he says he found in the fish.

After getting in touch with Aldi he was told to take the box and the metal into the store to fill out a form, which would go to their serious complaints department.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We have not received any similar complaints regarding this product, which is trawler caught and goes through metal detection prior to packaging.

“We have asked Mr Dickens to return the product to his nearest store so that we can look into this for him.”

Earlier this year a horrified mum found a metal spike in her Aldi steak, bought from the same store – and was stunned to be told it was embedded in the cow when it was still alive.

Anna Wood-Penn, 36, bit down on the shiny one-inch bolt as she enjoyed a steak dinner at home with her family.

Council health inspectors investigated and were told by Aldi’s meat supplier the unknown object was probably present in the animal when it was slaughtered.

And a heating engineer today told how he nipped home to make a sandwich on his lunch break and find shards of metal in his tin of tuna.

Maurice Hart, 40, says he’s lucky not have had his throat cut by the inch-long fragments buried within the Princes tuna flakes.
