We reveal the natural conundrums which have baffled the brightest minds

THESE mysteries have kept scientists guessing for decades.

And despite decades of research, many remain an enigma.

Ranging from fairy circles popping up across the desert to eerie spinning disks of ice across Michigan, here are some of the strangest natural phenomenon known to man.

We'll be adding to this list as more mysteries flood in, so keep this page and keep checking back to hear about more bizarre natural conundrums.

This week, scientists claimed to have cracked the conundrum of bizarre rings that have been popping up in the desert.

The millions of patches are 20cm in diameter and are perfectly spaced 20cm apart as if manipulated by hand.

It's believed the incredible sight is down to termites in the sand, but this has been disputed by rivalling nature experts.

There's also the strange sounds "heard" booming from the Northern Lights.

A Greenland tour guide claimed to hear a Star Wars style blast fire running through the power lines as the incredible light show lit up the sky in December.

Aurora sounds are a divisive topic, with some scientists claiming the hissing and clap noises can be explained by electrical currents hitting objects on the surface of the Earth like pine trees.

Others believe they are figments of our imagination.

Earlier this month a perfectly circular disk was spotted spinning atop a lake in Michigan, and nobody knows why.

The clip shows the sheet of ice spinning perpetually as though someone – or something – has carved it up with a biscuit cutter.

There's several theories on why these incredible shapes have begun appearing on frozen rivers across the world.

The most common explanation is that the disks appear when cold, dense air hits a circular surge of water in a river (called an eddy).

Closer to home, Marazion beach in Cornwall has been making headlines too.

Tens of thousands of dead fish have washed up on its shores for a second time - baffling marine biologists.

Earlier this year hundreds of jellyfish were stranded on Perranporth beach and in 2014 dead whitebait were found washed up on Mullion harbour.

It is unclear why the fish have ended up there but they may have been chased in by predators.

Then there's the tomb where Jesus Christ was allegedly resurrected in Rome, which was recently cracked open after 500 years.

Researchers were granted a short period of time to excavate before it was sealed back up again, but only a few photos reveal what they found inside.

Scientists claim they discovered the limestone shelf where it is believe Christ’s body was placed.
