THE SUN SAYS

Theresa May should seize control of Article 50 process and stop this shameful, spurious High Court case from the Remoaners

The Supreme Court case is in fact a blatant attempt to subvert EU referendum result and Mrs May needs to take control

Why the wait, PM?

THERESA May has promised to take back control for Britain. She should first seize control of the Article 50 process itself.

Not until next Tuesday will the Supreme Court hand down its ponderous verdict on whether the Government can serve notice on the EU without an Act of Parliament. But why wait for it?

We now know in detail the Prime Minister’s sensible and mature plan for Brexit.

The majority, who backed Leave, are behind it. So too now are many who backed Remain.

MPs have already voted overwhelmingly to trigger Article 50 by April. Our negotiating position is clear. So let’s vote on a one-line Bill and get on with it.

The Supreme Court case, dressed up as concern for Parliament’s sovereignty, is in fact a blatant attempt to subvert the majority’s referendum verdict. But at least its author Gina Miller had the guts to show her face.

That is more than can be said for the new legal “campaigners” trying to block Brexit.

They are four foreign workers, aiming to sabotage the biggest democratic mandate in British history.

Yet we are barred even from knowing their names. Our High Court has let them make this shameful, spurious case from behind a cloak of anonymity.

It is not just an insult to our democracy. It’s a grotesque affront to open justice.

It's just the jobs

FIRST the good news.

Unemployment has fallen yet again to its lowest since 2005. Employment is back up at a record high. Pay is rising by three per cent — much higher than inflation, which is still 0.4 per cent below the Bank of England target.

So much for the Remainers’ incessant gloom and all the dire forecasts of mass job losses after the referendum.

The economy is booming.

Long may it hold as we negotiate Brexit.

Now for the bad news.

Er . . . a few bank staff may move out of London.

That’s it. We’ll get back to you if there’s more.

Left's war on Boris

OUR hearts go out to all the delicate flowers traumatised by Boris Johnson briefly mentioning the war.

How awful for them to hear him describe President Hollande’s threats to punish Britain for leaving the EU as reminiscent of a World War Two movie.

The Left’s full-time offence-takers were outraged on France’s behalf. Lib Dems wept.

The EU’s thin-skinned “chief Brexit negotiator” Guy Verhofstadt called it “abhorrent”. We hope the poor lamb has a panic room installed before talks start.

As far as we’re concerned the Foreign Secretary hit the nail on the head, as he so often does.

We had a good laugh, fondly recalled The Great Escape and only hope Theresa doesn’t lock Boris in the cooler.
