LUXURY beach huts kitted out with showers, kitchens and central heating and setting guests back £200 a night are being installed in Bournemouth

Officials in Dorset were inspired to erect the row of eco-friendly lodges by the exclusive huts at Mudeford, which is home to the most expensive ones in Britain.

The new huts, which sleep up to six people and have their own hot shower, toilet and kitchen, can be rented out at £625 for a three-day weekend or four-day midweek break.

Bournemouth council has spent £1.75million on the project at Boscombe beach and hope it will attract more families to the area.

They have been designed by Ecologic Developments which makes bespoke beach huts for private clients at Mudeford, where the cabins sell for up to £260,000 each.

But the ones on the isolate sandy spit have no toilet or washing facilities, leaving millionaire owners sharing a communal shower block.

While beach huts have been a fixture at Bournemouth for decades, it has never been possible to stay in them overnight until now.

Over 30 smaller day huts have moved to make way for the new buildings, which measure 11ft by 15ft and have a mezzanine level where they is a double bed.

The main lounge area has sofa beds that sleep four people.

They also have a dining table, storage units, a radiator, trendy bi-fold doors and decking which overlooks the beach and sea.

The new eco-huts are the latest luxury offer in Dorset and are just a stone's throw from an opulent treehouse with its own sauna, rotating fireplace and pizza oven - which costs £390 a night.

The 15 lodges were built off-site and were hoisted into position by crane earlier this week.

They will be ready to taken up by spring.

A spokesman for Bournemouth Council said: "They are absolutely brilliant. It's a real innovation for Bournemouth.

"They sleep up to six people, have got bathroom facilities, heating, a kitchen area - they're like nothing else.

"We're over the moon about them. They look fantastic and they're going to be wonderful for the town."
