The site was set up by Republican supporter David Goss as a "safe space" for singletons who are fed up with being scorned for their politics on first dates.

It initially struggled to attract more than around 500 members and before the election David was looking for another job.

But since the tycoon's shock victory in November supporters of The Donald have signed up in their droves.

They pay $19.95 a month to hook up with partners who share their political views - $15 more than when the site launched in June.

David, 35, a former reality TV producer from California, admits he expected to shut the site down after the poll but said: "Business is great.

"We never expected him to win — at least I didn't.

"We got a little slow going from mid-October through November, and I was really worried.

"After he won, we've consistently had people sign up every single day."

He added: “It’s been working out for some people. I’m so glad we have something out there to help people find each other.

"For some people, going on dates and finding out that they supported Trump was a deal killer. That’s not the case for our users.”

Lifelong conservative David got the idea after a female pal told him of a bad date with a Hillary Clinton supporter.

When she revealed her leanings the man upped and left, even leaving her to pick up the bill.

David told the New York Post last year: “I think there’s a special stigma when people say they’re supporting Trump, because of some of the brash things that he’s said.

"That immediately gets on his supporters, and it makes it hard for them when trying to date.”

He said Trump supporters are "demonised" and he wanted to make it easier for like-minded singles to find each other so politics was not a barrier to love.

Married David said: "The Trump Single is just a fun-loving person. It's not anybody that's different from anybody else.

"We just have our views and when we stick to them and we're proud of them and we're not willing to give up on them just to date somebody."

A rival site offers Americans dates with Canadian citizens as a way to escape the US under President Trump.
