Police and ambulance vehicles swarmed the area after receiving reports of the smash at around 8.20am.

They found an 11-year-old boy seriously injured at the scene following the collision with the truck.

He was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

The young boy was cycling along Whitehouse Road when he was hit at the junction with Braehead Road.

The driver of the bin lorry was uninjured, police confirmed.

Officers locked down a stretch of the busy road in both directions as they investigated the smash scene.

Photos show at least eight police vehicles, including vans and cars, parked on the road.

Blue tape has also sealed off the area with a handful of officers guarding the area.

A large blue bin lorry also appears to be sealed off and an ambulance was also spotted on the street.

Officers have launched a probe into the incident to establish the circumstances around the death.
