SUPERMARKET SHOCK

Tesco worker’s disgust at “filthy” supermarket kitchen she claimed was never cleaned

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, took photographs of the kitchen she was working in after seeing the state of the oven and cooking areas

FOOD on the floor, an encrusted oven and a "filthy" kitchen shocked a woman taking on part-time work in a Tesco Extra cafe.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, slammed it as the worst kitchen she had seen after seeing the state of the oven and cooking areas.

She said it was "filthy" and was outraged at the state of the cooking equipment

The woman said: "This was the most filthy kitchen I've ever been in, it should be closed and done what's needed to be done.

"How long have they been serving food out of that kitchen with one chef who has no time to clean?

"It hadn't been cleaned for over 48 hours.

"I've worked in lots of other kitchens before, it's unacceptable, it would not be allowed if it was left like that."

She took photographs of the kitchen in the Pitsea store in Basildon, Essex, which showed an encrusted oven, dirty washing up trays and filthy floor.

She said in her employment there, which was only for a few days in October last year, she claimed it had not been cleaned for more than 48 hours because she said the chef had not had time.

She added she had cleaned where she could in her role but was unable to address all of the issues.

Since then a Tesco spokesman confirmed there has been a deep clean in this particular cafe's kitchen.

He also included photographs of the kitchen taken last week which show a dramatic improvement.

Last year a mum-to-be was horrified after finding what she thought was a clump of human hair in a breaded mushroom purchased from the same store.

Courtney Pedrick, 18, who was due to give birth in November, would regularly feast on the frozen snack after craving them throughout her pregnancy.

A spokesman for Tesco stated the “clump of human hair” was instead a natural fibre from the mushroom, and asked her to return the product so an investigation could take place.

And last year it was revealed thousand of vulnerable patients are being served food prepared in filthy kitchens.

Care home workers with little hygiene training are preparing meals surrounded by mould, flies, cockroaches and rats.

Inspectors from the Food Standards Agency identified the ghastly levels of cleanliness during nationwide checks.
