CIA Director slams Donald Trump claiming he doesn’t ‘understand’ Russia and warns his tweeting could be dangerous
Spy chief John Brennan also hit back at Trump's 'Nazi Germany' remarks this week
OUTGOING CIA Director John Brennan has blasted Donald Trump for his lack of understanding on America’s fragile relations with Russia.
The President-elect has sparked controversy over his reluctance to criticise Vladimir Putin – who the intelligence community believes hacked Hillary Clinton’s election campaign.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Brennan warned that Trump’s love "talking and tweeting" could be dangerous while he's in the White House.
He said: "Spontaneity is not something that protects national security interests.
"I think Mr. Trump has to understand that absolving Russia of various actions it has taken in the past number of years is a road that he needs to be very, very careful about moving down."
This week, Trump slammed the intelligence community accusing them of leaking the widely discredited ‘dirty dossier’ which contained allegations about the Republican’s ties to Russia.
Posting on Twitter, Trump even likened the situation to ‘Nazi Germany.’
But Brennan hit back at that comparison calling it "outrageous".
He said: “What I do find outrageous is equating intelligence community with Nazi Germany. I do take great umbrage at that.
“There is no basis for Mr Trump to point fingers at the intelligence community for ‘leaking’ information that was already available publicly.”
He added: "The world is watching now what Trump says and listening very carefully.
“If he doesn't have confidence in the intelligence community, what signal does that send to our partners and allies as well as our adversaries?
"It's more than just about Mr. Trump.”
The departing spy chief is set to be replaced by Trump's own pick for CIA Director Mike Pompeo.
