Gran’s fury as M&S drivers refuse to deliver bed to her house because it’s ‘too SMELLY’ and ‘poses a health and safety risk’
Maureen Ellis left 'embarrassed' after the upmarket retailer offered to assemble the bunk beds at another address
A GRAN says Marks & Spencer drivers refused to deliver to her home because they said it was too smelly.
Maureen Ellis ordered a bunk bed online for her two grandsons on January 4 which the store offered to assemble at her house.
But when a worker came round to her two-bedroom semi-detached property on Thursday, he told her he didn't have the bed and sped off in his van
Healthcare assistant Maureen, 58, called M&S and was told the bed was not delivered because there was a stink that posed a health and safety risk.
Maureen, of Bournemouth, Dorset, says she has been left “embarrassed” after the store offered to assemble the beds at another address instead.
Drivers arrived at her two-bedroom semi-detached property and one of the workers went inside to see where he could fit the item on Thursday.
But after going back to his van, the unknown man told Ms Ellis he didn’t actually have the bed and that it was in another lorry before speeding away.
Maureen - who has six cats and a dog - said: “I couldn’t believe it - I was gobsmacked.
“The man who came to check out my house was fine when he came in. He spent a couple of minutes checking the house out before returning to the van.

“He came back after ten minutes and said they didn’t have the bed in the van and five minutes later he sped off.
“I was shocked, I spent all afternoon calling them and eventually someone came back and said it’s been logged as a health and safety issue due to the smell.
“I couldn’t believe it, I said my house does not smell – I have guests over all the time. They then said they could not deliver but could assemble it at another address for me.
“It’s disgusting customer service, I was left so embarrassed. They are still standing by the workers saying it is a health and safety risk.
“I don’t know why they are doing this because now I have been left with no bed – my grandchildren had to sleep on a mattress this weekend.
Maureen has worked for M&S for a decadeMaureen, who is a former M&S worker, added: “They’ve told me they will email me next week and that they are looking into what the odour is, but this just isn’t on.”
The store said it was in touch with Maureen and was investigating.
