COPS were forced to close London's iconic Tower Bridge this afternoon after it was swarmed by pro-Palestine protesters who let off flares and disrupted traffic.

Traffic was brought to a standstill last night and buses were diverted to other crossing points over the river as people played music and beat drums, singing “Free Palestine, Free Palestine”.

Early reports claimed pro-Palestine activists were at the heart of the protest as demands for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip continue.

City of London Police confirmed the incident around 5.40pm.

A statement on X (formerly Twitter) read: "Tower Bridge is currently closed due to protest activity. Officers are in attendance at the scene."

At 6.26pm, the bridge had "reopened".

A police spokesperson confirmed to The Sun that the bridge was closed for approximately 45 minutes.

They added that all protesters had been cleared from the area and added it was unlikely the bridge would have to be closed again.

No injuries or arrests have been reported.
