Travellers take a chance on spooky Friday 13 flight to HEL with flight number 666
JUST a coincidence or something more? Flight 666 took off today on Friday 13, with the 13-year-old passenger jet flying straight to HEL – that is Helsinki, Finland.
The Finnair flight AY666 took off from Copenhagen at 12:15pm and landed safely in Finland at 3:50pm.
The flight has been running for years, with the crew saying it has become a running joke in the company.
Pilot Juha-Pekka Keidasto previously told RT: “It has been quite a joke among the pilots. I’m not a superstitious man. It’s only a coincidence for me.
“If there’s some passenger who is anxious about this 666, our cabin crew is always happy to help them.”
But despite the assurances hundreds of people on Twitter said they wouldn’t have boarded the flight as 666 is the number of the devil and Friday 13 is unlucky.
Flight tracker Flightradar24 tweeted: “Would you dare to sit in row 13, on board Finnair flight 666 en route to Hel on Friday the 13th?”
One user commented “who the heck would get on this flight?”
Another joked: “with black cats and broken mirrors in the cargo hold?”
While someone else added: “I for one am pleased for the survivors and their families.”
One superstitious person said: “You couldn’t pay me enough to go on that flight.”
The date Friday 13 is considered unlucky, with a fear of it called paraskavedekatriaphobia.
Today is one of two Friday 13s this year, with the second on October 13.
The flight is just one of several weird coincidences today.
Legendary horror writer William Peter Blatty, who penned The Exorcist, passed away at the age of 89.
If that wasn’t tragic enough, the news followed the death of the Catholic priest who inspired the iconic horror.
And it’s not over yet, as the child actor who played Damien in The Omen and punched two cyclists in a road rage attack has arrived at court for sentencing today.
