THERESA May has said it is "clear" former MI6 spy Christopher Steele "hasn't worked for the UK Government for years".
It comes after the former spy wrote reports containing details of compromising material Russia allegedly collected on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
The Prime Minister today confirmed Steele has not worked for the British government for years.
She said today: "It is absolutely clear that the individual who produced this dossier has not worked for the UK government for years."
The author of the controversial dossier has been named as Christopher Steele, a former MI6 officer who once worked under diplomatic cover in Russia.
Steele has so far not commented.

It comes after an explosive "dirty dossier" on Donald Trump's alleged links to Russia shocked the world after it was leaked.
The unsubstantiated report contains deeply damaging material that could be used to blackmail the president-elect – and was released just days before his inauguration.
Among the unverified claims are that he let prostitutes perform “perverted sexual acts” by urinating in front of him in a Moscow hotel room used by President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.
But the President-elect branded the dossier "fake news" and said it could not be true as he has a pathological fear of germs.
The President-elect also blasted US intelligence agencies for acting like “Nazi Germany” after the lurid claims were leaked.
The reports compiled by a former Brit MI6 agent made a series of unproven allegations against the billionaire — reportedly logged by the Russian intelligence services as potential blackmail material.
Mr Trump, due to be sworn in as the 45th US President on January 20, is also accused of using the “extensive sexual services” of Russian prostitutes and of attending sex parties.
He is also said to have been offered — but not taken up — real estate deals linked to the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.
