Thug tried to murder his eight-month pregnant fiancée before stabbing himself and hurling himself through a first floor window

A THUG tried to kill his eight-month pregnant fiancée and her unborn child before stabbing himself and hurling himself through a first floor window.
Petar Petrov, 31, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and attempted child destruction after the attack last year, which has left his 30-year-old partner in a permanent vegetative state.
She remains in critical condition in hospital five months after the attack, which her baby survived unharmed.
Petrov, a hotel worker, assaulted his heavily pregnant partner at their flat in Densworth Grove, north London last August.
The couple met while both working at a hotel in posh Knightsbridge and had moved into the flat the month before to prepare for the birth of their first child together.
Frantic neighbours rang the police after an hour-long argument between the couple ended with a loud bang which 'sounded like a car crash'.
Petrov was found lying on the ground outside, looking unresponsive and covered in blood. It initially appeared as though he had been thrown through the window, but was later found to have suffered self-inflicted injuries including a slash on the neck.
His partner was found lying on the floor of the flat with life-threatening head and neck injuries including several facial fractures, severe bruising of the lungs and a stab wound to the face.
She was rushed to hospital but five months on from the attack remains in a critical condition and 'permanent vegetative state'.
Her baby was saved and was born premature but unharmed after doctors performed an emergency c-section on August 9.
Detective Inspector Chris Skelt of Enfield Police Community Safety Unit said: "This has been a truly shocking case.
"It is incomprehensible to think that a father-to-be could carry out such a violent and horrific attack on his fiancée knowing she was carrying their baby.
"I would like to commend the members of the public who were first at this distressing scene, and who performed first aid on the injured parties and called the emergency services.
"Their quick actions and bravery were crucial in getting the victim the medical attention she needed, saving her child's life.
"Sadly she remains in a persistent vegetative state, however thankfully her child was born without injuries via caesarean section."
Medics discovered Petrov was found with injuries consistent with falling from a height and self-inflicted wounds.
He was taken to the Royal London Hospital and subsequently arrested.
Det Ins Skelt added: "Enfield Borough Community Safety Unit conducted a robust and thorough investigation that has led to Petrov's guilty plea.
"This will now mean that the members of the public will no longer need to give evidence forcing them to relive the terrible events of that night.
"Petrov has never revealed the motive behind his shocking attack but I urge anyone who is either in, or know a person in, a relationship suffering domestic abuse to report incidents to police in order that we can protect victims for further abuse and perpetrators can be brought to justice."
Petrov will be sentenced next month.
