WAD A FIND

Hero taxi driver’s selfless response after finding £11,000 in the back of his car…& getting a measly amount as a reward

Fazil had an unexpected reaction when he was given a tiny reward

A SELFLESS taxi driver shrugged off the measly reward he was handed after returning £11,000 he found in his car.

Fazil, 58, was stunned when he discovered 13,000 euros (£11k) in the back of his cab after dropping a customer off in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

Without a second thought, he contacted the taxi headquarters who in turn phoned the woman who had left her money behind on February 6.

Fazli gave the cash over to its owner on Wednesday, who was relieved because she thought she had lost it forever.

The unnamed woman explained that the money belonged to her boss at the company she worked at.

Fazli, who is Viennese but whose roots are in Turkey, said: "She said she worked in a store and that the money belonged to her boss."

She reportedly told the taxi driver that had the money not been recovered, she would have been out of pocket as she would have had to pay her boss back using her own money.

But despite his kindness, Fazil is understood to have received just a 100 euro (£85) reward - despite legally being entitled to at least 650 euros (£553).

Fazil, however, was not upset by his lack of compensation - saying his good deed was not about the money.

He said: "For me, it's not about doing justice to the finder's reward.

"It's really just about humanity - everyone should also think about their fellow human beings."

It comes after another taxi driver was stunned when he scooped a huge award when he returned a large wad of cash to its rightful owner.

I’m a taxi driver who handed back £570 I found in my car - but my reward blew my mind

Isaac Ackon, who returned the cash worth £570 (GH₵8,400) to a passenger who left it in his car, was praised across Ghana for his honesty.

Ackon told a local radio station it was very easy for him to decide to return the money.

He said: "The simple reason is that I don't take things that are not mine."

When he found the money, Ackon was struggling to feed his family on his taxi driver salary, whilst his car was becoming old and difficult to use,

Yet, the father-of-three didn't keep the money for himself but quickly set off to find to his former passenger - a local fishmonger called Teshie.

She cried with joy that she had her money back, wailing and almost crying in relief as she hugged him.

Ackon's heart-warming story only came to light when journalist, Manasseh Azure, began a fundraiser to reward his selfless act.

The fundraiser quickly started garnering attention, with politicians and musicians rushing to support the cabbie.
