A 92-year-old woman has been rescued from a pigsty after being locked there by her own son for years without proper care.
The widow, surnamed Yang, is said to have been driven out of her own home by her son, surnamed Wu, and her daughter-in-law, surnamed Duan, because she suffers from incontinence.
Amazingly, the elderly woman’s dire conditions were only recently discovered by a local resident in Fengshan County, in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, who recorded a video and uploaded it to social media.
The clip, which has since gained several hundred thousand views at the time of writing, shows Yang locked in the 107-square-foot pigsty, with no warm clothes and not even a proper bed to sleep on.
She was apparently fed through the metal bars and was never allowed out; she also stank of urine and faeces as a result of her incarceration.
Local police ordered the woman’s son to let her out and took her to be treated at the Fengshan County People’s Hospital, where she remains.
The son and daughter-in-law are now under investigation for abuse but they claim the elderly mum moved into the "room" voluntarily.
Wu says his mum thought her incontinence would be too much of an inconvenience for the couple, so she moved out herself a few years ago.
Fengshan County people said they would continue to investigate after the pensioner is strong enough to give a proper statement.
