Fresh from his disastrous ‘re-launch’ Jeremy Corbyn misses open goal on NHS in first showdown with Theresa May of 2017
PM hit back after hapless Labour chief failed to capitalise on fact 485 patients spent more than 12 hours on trolleys last week
FRESH from his disastrous outing yesterday Jeremy Corbyn had chance to atone after he was offered an open goal for his first showdown with Theresa May of the new year.
The fact that 485 people spending more than 12 hours on trolleys in British hospitals last week was a script even the hapless Labour chief could stick to.
And after claims there was a “humanitarian crisis” in the NHS this winter, Mr Corbyn thought he was onto a winner: “If she won't listen to the Red Cross, who will she listen to?”
Well it turns out the answer to Mr Corbyn’s question at PMQs was not Mr Corbyn.
Having seen off EU Ambassadors, seasoned No10 civil servants and now with the head of the NHS in her sights, a pesky charity and a veteran socialist were no match for Iron Heels.
Mrs May hit back: “We’ve all seen humanitarian crisis around the world. To use that description for our NHS…. is irresponsible and overblown.”
And back and forth they went on the subject of our creaking health service:

“There are always pressures in the winter”, she said.
“She seems to be in some degree of denial about this,” he said.
There are two million people waiting more than four hours in A&E at the moment - so perhaps it was not the wisest decision for the PM to discuss a “small number of incidents where care has not been good enough.”
It was an open goal for Labour, but Mr Corbyn still managed to make dribbling the ball into the net a torturous process.
As she was on the ropes over the A&E crisis, he went off on a tangent about Mental Health. And so it came back to the age old weakness of the Labour leader.
Whatever he says at the Despatch Box, whatever blows he lands, he remains totally useless.
As the PM was able to breezily say: “Yesterday he proved he is not only incompetent but he would destroy our economy and that would devastate the NHS.”
If you’ve seen one Labour versus Tory bout on the NHS then you have seen them all. A draw where no one shined.
FINAL SCORE: Theresa May 3 v 3 Jeremy Corbyn
