A MAN is fighting for his life as cops hunt the maniac hit and run driver who deliberately ploughed into him in a Glasgow City Centre street.

The motorist smashed their Volkswagen Golf into the 32-year-old in Jamaica Street early this morning.

Cops said the victim was rushed to hospital where he is fighting for life.

They sealed Jamaica Street to rush hour traffic to probe the incident, sparking traffic chaos in surrounding streets – and warned it would be shut into the afternoon.

Glasgow Police said in a statement: “At around 0045 hours a 32-year-old man was seriously injured after a Volkswagen Golf was deliberately driven at him in Jamaica Street.

“He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he remains for treatment.

“Hospital staff describe his condition as life-threatening.

“Jamaica Street is closed whilst officers carry out enquiries. It is anticipated that it waill remain closed until this afternoon.”
