Wife of Brussels attack victim sues Twitter claiming site gives ISIS free reign to raise money, recruit fanatics and spread their evil message
Victim's family also took legal action against Twitter, Google and Facebook last year
THE wife of a New York man who died in last year’s terror attack in Brussels is suing Twitter in a new lawsuit that calls the social media giant a “tool and a weapon of terrorism.”
The wife of Alexander Pinczowski, who died in the March attack along with his sister Sascha Pinczowski, accused Twitter of aiding and abetting ISIS by acting as their communication, recruiting and marketing arm.
“ISIS has also used Twitter’s Direct Messaging capabilities for fundraising and operational purposes,” said the lawsuit by Pinczowski’s wife, Anne Cameron Cain.
Cain was joined in the Manhattan federal lawsuit by family members of Nohemi Gonzalez, a California woman who died in the 2015 Paris attack, which killed 130 people.
The families of Pinczowski and Gonzalez are seeking unspecified damages to be determined at trial.
The allegations echo lawsuits filed against Twitter, Facebook and Google after the Orlando, Fla., nightclub shooting.
All of the lawsuits accuse Silicon Valley companies of not doing enough to stop terrorists from using its service to expand their reach.
“The conduct of Twitter was a direct, foreseeable and proximate cause of the wrongful deaths of Nohemi Gonzalez, Alexander Pinczowski,” the New York lawsuit said.
On March 22 last year, 32 people died and 270 were injured in three coordinated terror attacks across the Belgian capital.
Two of the bomb blasts occurred at Brussels' Zaventem Airport while the third explosion happened at Maalbeek metro station.
One of the explosions centred around the American Airlines desk in the departure lounge in Zaventem airport.
Another blast reportedly took place on the road leading up to departures.
Passengers were evacuated and photos showed smoke billowing from the building after the terror attack.
Depraved terror group ISIS later claimed responsibility for the senseless attacks.
