Donald Trump names his son-in-law Jared Kushner as senior White House adviser, sparking accusations of nepotism

DONALD Trump’s ‘many enemies’ have slammed the President-elect for appointing his son-in-law as his senior adviser.

Jared Kushner, 36, who is married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka, is a property tycoon and one of the former Apprentice’s host most trusted confidantes.

Trump’s lawyer’s insist his appointment as a high-ranking White House advisor does not breach anti-nepotism laws, reports BBC News.

But the firebrand Republican has been accused of nepotism by many leading Democrats who have called for a review into the decision

Kushner, whose estimated wealth exceeds $200million, will step down from running his real estate business and New York Observer newspaper which he bought in 2006 after leaving college.

Trump’s transition team said Kushner will work closely with White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and chief strategist Stephen Bannon – the controversial former editor of Breitbart News.

Announcing his son-in-law’s appointment, Trump called Kushner a “trusted adviser”.

He said: “Jared has been a tremendous asset and trusted adviser throughout the campaign and transition, and I am proud to have him in a key leadership role in my administration.”

Trump will be inaugurated as President of the Unites States on January 20.

Born in 1981, Kushner is the son of real estate developer Charles Kushner.

He grew up in New Jersey, USA, and was raised as an Orthodox Jew.

The father-of-three graduated from Harvard University in 2003 with a degree in sociology.

His admission to the elite university proved controversial, after a book by journalist Daniel Golden – also a Harvard graduate – suggested Kushner and his brother were given a place following a $2.5 million donation from their father.

In 2007, Kushner graduated from New York University, where he earned graduate degrees in law and business administration.

He married Donald Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka in 2009, after she converted to Judaism.

The couple have three children – 5-year-old Arabella, 3-year-old Joseph and 8-month-old Theodore.

Kushner reportedly earned $20million as a student at Harvard, where he bought and sold buildings in the area for fun.

In 2006, he bought the New York Observer newspaper for $10 million using some of those earnings – one of a handful of papers to endorse Donald Trump in the presidential race.

Since 2008, he has been the principal owner of Kushner Properties after his father was jailed for tax evasion, illegal campaign donations and witness tampering.
