Brit backpacker found hanged in apartment on Thai party island after ‘row with her boyfriend’

The 26-year-old's lifeless body was found by her partner who frantically tried to revive her

THE British woman found dead in Thailand after hanging herself has been named as Abigail Louise Brown from Plymouth.

The 26-year-old’s lifeless body was found in an apartment in Soi Ta-Iad in the popular tourist area of Phuket by her boyfriend, according to local officers.

Miss Brown returned to the flat shortly after 3am local time after reportedly having an argument with her partner.

Police lieutenant Somkiet Sarasit, from Chalong Police Station, told local media that CCTV showed Miss Brown going back to her room where her distraught boyfriend found her dead at around 6am.

Her body was discovered hanging from a door by a ligature, authorities confirmed.

Police and rescue workers arrived after being called by a couple in a neighbouring room who had rang for help.

Officers arrived to find the woman’s unnamed boyfriend attempting to give her CPR.

Phuket Ruamjai Rescue Foundation Chief Saiyan Thamaphan added: “The woman’s boyfriend asked us to revive her but it was not possible because her irises were not responding to light and her skin was getting dark.”

Officers also noticed a rolled-up bedsheet in the room, he said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Lt Somkiet said: “The autopsy report from Vachira Phuket Hospital states that there were no traces of assault on Ms Brown’s body.

“The only injuries found were around her neck. Our investigation into this incident is now closed.”

He said the injuries were the type usually found in hanging victims.

Miss Brown’s family have been informed and plans have been made to repatriate her body on Thursday.

Lt Somkiet revealed that Miss Brown had allegedly fallen out with her boyfriend prior to her suicide.

He said: ”The man said that they had been out together. They had an argument and she returned early.

“They had been fighting about silly things.

”It was suicide and we’re not looking for any suspects.”

He said that the police would not release the name of the her boyfriend and that the body would be flown back to the UK on January 12.

He added: ”The case is now closed. We have confirmed it was suicide.”
