The 30-year-old was shot dead by police not long after 5am in Rotherhithe, south London yesterday after officers swooped into a quiet residential street.

The dramatic moment Hodgson was brought down in Bywater Place was caught on camera after he managed to get inside the property.

Cops confirmed he knew at least one person who lived in the home.

He had appeared in court charged with "stalking involving serious alarm/distress" in June last year.

Hodgson was accused of going into a woman's bedroom without her consent and sending messages demanding she open the door.

Court documents showed he had a restraining order imposed after the alleged incident.

The terrifying behaviour was said to have happened between January and April last year.

Hodgson was dragged before the courts again after he failed to stick to his bail conditions by breaking a nighttime curfew.

A neighbour told the : "He was one troubled individual.

"He always looked stressed and kind of haunted. He was always outside smoking.

"He was very timid and always looking over his shoulder. He was young but his hair was coming out it looked like due to stress.

"I’m amazed he had all that military gear and was tooled up with weapons.

"I never noticed any of that stuff getting delivered here. He usually looked a mess - same jeans and scruffy clothes."

Metropolitan Police were called to Surrey Quays in the early hours of yesterday morning after Hodgson tried to enter a property.

Unarmed cops were said to have tried to talk to him but were forced to call for more help after he threatened them.

More cops swarmed the street and he was shot dead.

The police watchdog has now launched a probe into the man's death.

A witness captured the moment officers and paramedics then provided first aid in the middle of the street.

Weapons, including crossbow bolts, and a gas mask scattered the road as cops set up a cordon and forensics teams moved in.

Police confirmed the man was wearing body armour, and also had a knife, sword and hatchet on him.

Aerial pictures of the street show items including water bottles scattered across the pavement outside an address with crime scene markers placed next to them.

'IN SHOCK'

Two people in the building suffered minor injuries.

Neighbours said they were woken up by a burst of screaming and shouting.

Steve Cornish, 70, who lives nearby, said residents are "in shock" following the shooting.

He told The Sun: "There’s been incidents here before - stabbings and fights but nothing like this.

"You get your standard crime in this area but a lot lower than other parts of London. Especially this cul-de-sac, it’s very very quiet."

Restaurant owner Akber Baloch, 52, said: "I was sleeping and I heard some shouting. It was also like someone was banging a door.

I could hear someone screaming and then everything became quiet. I think it was a man and a woman fighting.

IT consultant Valeria Bocanegra, 37, said: "I could hear shouting but could not hear what was being said.

"I could hear someone screaming and then everything became quiet. I think it was a man and a woman fighting.

"It is quite a shock (to hear that someone has been shot). There is a family behind this situation.

"A man has died and it is a horrible situation."
