American airline pilot arrested at Edinburgh Airport after ‘firearm discovered in luggage’

The airline had to cancel the 9.25am to Newark, New Jersey.

A PILOT has been arrested at Edinburgh Airport after he was allegedly found with a taser.

Following a security search this morning, the 56-year-old man was arrested and charged with an alleged firearms offence.

United Airlines confirmed one of its employees has been removed from service and is cooperating with the local authorities.

As a result, the airline had to cancel the 9.25am flight to Newark, New Jersey.

United Airlines, said: "This employee was immediately removed from service and we are fully cooperating with local authorities."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following a security search at Edinburgh Airport on Saturday, 20 January, a 56-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a firearms offence.

“He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 22 January, 2024.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

It is illegal in Scotland and the rest of the UK to possess, purchase, acquire, manufacture, sell, or transfer a taser without lawful authority.

The weapon is capable of discharging an electrical current.

Lawful authority is granted to bodies such as the police and would never cover a member of the public.
