Shocking injuries of widow, 82, beaten in her own home by burglar who threatened to torture her if she didn’t hand over £5

The gutless intruder put his hands over the pensioner's mouth and dragged her around the house in the sick raid

A LOWLIFE burglar left a pensioner with horror injuries after threatening her with torture if she didn't hand over a fiver.

Terrified widow Jean Young, 82, was left with cuts and bruises after the heartless thief barged his way into her home and attacked her.

The burglar stole just £5 after putting his hands over the pensioner's mouth and threatening her with torture so she would hand over the money.

The thug also dragged Jean around the house during the shocking attack.

Jean had been home alone at the house in Newcastle where she's lived for 40 years when she the burglar knocked on her door at around 10.45am on Wednesday.

The gutless thief barged past her and forced his way into the home she used to share with husband Alan before his death in October.

But the raider only made off with £5 from Jean's purse after being confronted by neighbours.

Jean's son Steve rushed to his mum's aid after she raised the alarm and was shocked when he saw her battered face.

He said: “He was screaming, ‘Where’s the money, where’s the money? Give me the money’.

“He threatened to tie her up and torture her. He found her purse and took a few quid - there was nothing of value in her purse.”

Neighbours alerted by the commotion made their way into the house after Jean didn't answer the front door and bravely challenged the intruder.

But the burglar broke free and barricaded himself in a bedroom before jumping out a second floor window and hopping the back fence to escape.

Jean lost her beloved husband three months ago and was just getting used to living on her own.

Steve said she is feeling fine but fears the shock of the attack will sink in later.

He has thanked his mum's "fantastic neighbours", adding: "I just want to warn elderly people in the road to be a little bit more aware.

"There’s such nasty pieces of work in the world we live in.

“I’d advise people to be extra vigilant. It’s dark in the morning and dark in the evening. You need to be extra vigilant, be very careful when answering the door and if you’ve got a door chain, use it.”

The attacker is described as well-built, around six-feet tall and in his 20s or 30s. He was wearing dark clothing at the time.

Northumbria Police say officers have visited Jean’s home and enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made.

In September, vile Mark Love was jailed for 28 years after beating pensioner Roy Blackman to death in a brutal burglary.
