Belmarsh guard gave cops false confession that derailed trial

A PRISON officer was given "money, gifts and promises" to lie for a murder suspect who shot a man dead on his doorstep.

She made the fake report for Aaron Campbell, 32, while he was waiting to stand trial for murdering Iron Miah.

Bujko was persuaded to speak to cops by Campbell's co-accused Mohammed Moshaer Ali, 31, who then paid £500 into her account.

"Outrageous liar” Ali also showered her with "gifts and promises".

As a result of her lies, the trial collapsed - leaving Iron's family in agony as they waited for justice.

But Ali, Campbell and third co-defendant Antonio Afflick-McLeod have finally been convicted of murder.

Bujko's role in the horror was revealed after the verdicts were reached.

The web of lies began in November 2019 after Iron, 40, was gunned down in Tower Hamlets, East London.

He had been lured out of his house by Ali and into a car where the trio were waiting.

After he got back out the Volkswagen Polo, one of the men blasted him in the back of the head.

All three of his killers had been sent to Belmarsh on remand as they awaited trial.

Bujko, who has since admitted perverting the course of justice, was persuaded to lie for Ali - claiming she had overheard a conversation in the jail's healthcare unit.

She told officers Campbell had suggested to another inmate that he and Afflick-McLeod had planned to rob Ali of drugs on the day of the killing but Iron had been sent in his place instead.

But when officers checked CCTV of the unit, they realised Campbell was not there at the time Bujko claimed she witnessed the exchange.

She was arrested in December 2022 and pleaded guilty to conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Bujko will be sentenced on February 28 alongside Ali, Afflick-McLeod and Campbell.

Detective Chief Inspector David Whellams of the Metropolitan Police said: "My team have worked tirelessly over a long period of time to ensure that Iron's family could receive the justice they deserve.

"This was a deliberate and callous act of violence in a residential area. Nobody deserves to be the victim of such brutality and the three people convicted today will undoubtedly spend a significant time in jail. Our streets are safer without these people at large.

"I would like to pay tribute to Iron's family, who have been extremely supportive of the investigation in the face of a long road to justice, while living with the trauma of losing their loved one."
