BRITS will wake up to a -4C chill with sleet, snow and ice causing travel chaos and making pavements "impassable".
The Met Office has issued yellow snow and ice warnings for Scotland, northern England, north Wales and Northern Ireland today.
A snow and ice warning will be in place all day for the west and north of Scotland and much of Northern Ireland.
Up to 20cm of snow is forecast in some places, blanketing roads and railways.
Journeys by car, train and plane could all be hampered by delays and cancellations.
And forecasters warn that "untreated pavements and cycle paths might be impassable".
People venturing out into the cold should take care not to slip on icy surfaces.
Similar snow and ice warnings will be in force for southern Scotland and northern England until midday.
The mercury will sink to -4C in north east Scotland at 6am this morning.
Temperatures will hover around freezing point throughout the UK all day.
Snow showers will dust coastal parts, especially in Scotland - but it will be dry and sunny inland.
The south will have a cloudier start, with the odd wintry flurry possible.
Forecasters said the rest of the week will be very cold, with more snow.
On Thursday there will more snow and ice warnings for Northern Ireland and the west coast from Wales up to the top of Scotland.
