The little boy, from Denver, Colorado, went missing after he wandered off on Saturday - the park where his body was discovered is close too his home.

Authorities confirmed on Wednesday the body they had found was that of David, and they were now trying to determine how he died.

A spokesman said they did not suspect foul play.

Police chief Nick Metz revealed dogs had been brought in to help with the search and were not able to pick up a scent.

On Wednesday the area had been roped off as a crime scene, but cops say they are not looking at anyone else being involved - the little boy has wandered off before.

Metz told : “I have the very unfortunate news of letting you know … we found the body of what appears to be a child, inside the pond, underneath the ice."

Cops will now try to recreate what happened to establish how the body of the boy ended up in the water.

Metz added that while the child had not been officially identified as David, his parents had been informed.

A huge search was launched on Monday to try and find the six-year-old, with the FBI getting involved, fliers being handed out and helicopters brought in to assist with trying to find him.

Infra- red lighting systems were also used and an FBI specialist in missing children was drafted in on the case

His parents also made a tearful appeal asking for help to bring their son back to them safe and unharmed, and a $10,000 reward was offered for information.

When he vanished David was only wearing a light jacket, and there was huge concern for his well being in the plunging temperatures.
