She was detained when she was returning from the neighbouring state by taxi and arrested after the body was found in her luggage.

Seth, 39, checked into a hotel with her son on Saturday but the boy wasn't present when she checked out on Monday night, said Goa police inspector Paresh Naik.

He added that the hotel staff found blood stains in the room after her departure and informed the police.

Seth was allegedly on her way to Bengaluru for some work and insisted that she would travel by taxi only, reported the police.

When questioned about the blood stains, the woman replied that they were due to her period, and added that her son was with her friend in Margao town in South Goa and even provided an address.

When police came to know the given address was fake, they then contacted the taxi driver and instructed him to take Seth to the nearest police station.

They discovered the toddler's body when they opened her luggage, North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan told reporters.

A local court remanded her to six days in police custody, news agency ANI reported.
