Migrant caught trying to smuggle himself in the DASHBOARD of a car across Moroccan border with Spain
Police stopped a car and found the man, 20, crammed in next to the engine, as well as a 24-year-old woman in hollowed out back seats
A MIGRANT was caught trying to get across the Moroccan border with Spain after smuggling himself in the dashboard of a car.
Police stopped a Volkswagen Golf at the North African encalve of Ceuta and found the man, 20, crammed in next to the engine, as well as a 24-year-old woman in hollowed out back seats.
The pair, thought to be Guineans, were taken to hospital after reportedly experiencing breathing difficulties in the incident yesterday.
The driver of the stolen car – a 20-year-old Moroccan man, was arrested, according to .
It comes after a young African migrant was found smuggled inside a tiny suitcase just days ago.
Police released a photo of the 19-year-old man from Gabon who had managed to squeeze himself inside the cramped bag.
A Moroccan woman who was carrying the suitcase was arrested by the Spanish Civil Guard on December 30.
The incredible incident was followed by 1,100 migrants storming a border fence in Ceuta, which resulted in 50 cops being injured – including one who lost an eye.
A violent brawl ensued that resulted in one officer losing an eye, local authorities said.
The migrants, from sub-Saharan Africa, were trying to reach Europe and stormed the border fence just after 4 am local time on New Year’s Day.
The incident was described as “extremely violent and organised”, said the central government’s representative office in Ceuta.
None however managed to get through aside from two who were badly injured and taken to hospital.
A similar assault on December 9 saw more than 400 migrants enter the tiny enclave.
They tried “to force open some of the doors in the external fence, using iron bars, wire cutters and large stones with which they assaulted Moroccan forces and Guardia Civil agents,” it added.
Five Spanish policemen and 50 members of the Moroccan forces were injured, including one who lost an eye, it said.
Ceuta and Melilla, another Spanish territory in North Africa, have the European Union’s only land borders with Africa.
They are one of the entry points for African migrants seeking a better life in Europe, who get there by either climbing over the border fence, swimming along the coast or hiding in vehicles.
