'We woke to his piercing screams'

Susan Sarandon’s daughter Eva Amurri Martino reveals baby son cracked his skull after nanny dropped him on hardwood floor

The mum-of-two says she has suffered panic attacks and depression since the horrific accident

SUSAN Sarandon's daughter Eva Amurri Martino has revealed her baby son suffered a cracked skull after being dropped on his head by his nanny.

The young mum says she was awoken by the "sound of his head hitting the floor and the hysterical piercing screams" and has suffered panic attacks after the incident.

Baby Major spent two days in hospital with bleeding on the brain after the horrific accident just after Thanksgiving, but he is now three months old and "completely fine".

Eva, 31, who also has a daughter Marlowe Mae, two, made the candid admissions in an emotional blog post on her website HappilyEvaAfter.com on New Year's day.

"A couple of days after Thanksgiving, our Night Nurse fell asleep while holding Major and dropped him, and he cracked his head on the hardwood floor," she wrote.

"Kyle and I were sleeping at the time and were awoken by the sound of his head hitting the floor, and then hysterical piercing screams.

"He suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on his brain, and was transported by ambulance to Yale Medical Center where I spent two harrowing days with him to receive emergency care and further testing.

"To say these were the most traumatic and anxious two days of my life is an understatement."

But the traumatised mum says the family has forgiven the nurse for making a "very human mistake" and doesn't appear to be taking any legal action over the "freak accident".

"The truth is, even this woman who came so highly recommended, with a perfectly clean track record, could make a very human mistake," she wrote.

"It 'could happen to anyone', and as they told me repeatedly in the hospital, it DOES happen to anyone. More often than you’d like to hear.

"Obviously, the (extremely upset and remorseful) nurse is no longer working for our family, though we forgive her.

"The guilt I bore in the days and weeks after this accident was more intense and more damaging than anything I would wish upon my worst enemy.

"I wept in the hospital, telling anyone who would listen that it should have been me. That I was to blame.

"And even though I finally made peace with the fact that this freak accident could not have been avoided by me, it has continued to affect me to my core and in all aspects of my daily life."

Her harrowing revelation comes just days after a three-month old baby died two days before Christmas after his babysitter allegedly dropped him.

Actress Eva, who has appeared in shows including Friends and House, says she now believes she has some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder after suffering nausea, dizzy spells, panic attacks and sleeplessness.

She described how she majorly overreacted when the toddler daughter fell in the playground, sobbing and shaking in her husband's arms even though the tot was perfectly okay.

"It’s nearly impossible for me to trust anyone but myself to take care of Major now," she wrote.

"Hearing Major cry hard immediately triggers my memories of the moments after the accident and instigates an immediate panic attack– my heart races and tears spring to my eyes."

Eva, who lives in New York's Westchester County with husband sports broadcaster Kyle Martino, no longer has a night nurse and cares for her two children by herself.

She uses her blog to shares her stories and experiences about becoming a mother, detailing her pregnancies and deliveries and the challenges she faces as a parent.

In May, she revealed that towards the end of 2015 she had suffered a miscarriage at 10 weeks, and how it had left her fearful she would never be able to have a second baby.

When she learned she was pregnant again, for a third time, she described it as "terrifying".

She said it took months to be able to feel excited about the new arrival and to share the happy news with others. She didn't tell her blog readers about it until she was four months into the pregnancy.

"I fight the fear of loss every day – even now. I’m over four months pregnant and I still have moments of panic and wariness that my worst fear could once again come true. I allow myself these moments, and try to breathe through them," Eva wrote.

"When I’m scared, I speak to my son – I encourage him to stay with us, and tell him how much we are longing to hold him and to welcome him in to our family."

Eva also went public with how she had to fire a previous nanny after the woman made unwanted advances towards her husband.

She described how, while she'd been away on business in New York, Kyle had received a message from the nanny which read: "OMG. Girl, did I mention to you how hot and sex my Boss is. I would love to f*** his brains out ha haah. Too bad he seems not to like thick Latin women with lots to hold on to LOL."

Eva wrote: "Clearly, that text was not a mistake. If it had been a mistake, she would have been humiliated, so frantic to make it right (I’ve been there with mistaken texts, I know)."

"That text was sent out as a missive to test the proverbial waters with my husband and give her an opportunity later, when alone, to bring up a sexy dialogue with him."

Just three weeks earlier, Eva revealed she was devastated to have to fire another previous nanny of a year and a half, whom she and her daughter considered part of the family.

She did not reveal the exact reason why, only that she "caught her being untruthful with me in a major way."
