A MUM has revealed her devastation as her son killed a 16-year-old girl after she sent him to the bank.
Alisha Goup, 16, was tragically killed when she was ploughed down by Omar Choudhury, 22, as she walked to college in February this year.
The reckless driver lost control of his blue BMW 3 series after as he sped 66mph - more than double the limit - as he was being pursued by Hamidur Rahman, 24.
The two men had been racing through quite suburban streets in Oldham, Greater Manchester, after a "petty disagreement".
Rahman had blamed Choudhury for telling his family about a "disapproving" relationship he was in with a woman
And as they sped towards the town centre, Choudhury tried to overtake on the wrong side of the road.
His car then mounted the pavement where innocent Alisha was walking - killing her instantly.
In September, Choudhury and Rahman were both jailed for 14 years and disqualified from driving for a minimum 12 years.
And Choudhury's mum Asmina, 46, has since spoken out following her killer son's conviction - and revealed a message to Alisha's family.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: "I want to say to the family that I am really sorry - maybe that won't mean anything to them.
"I think about what the girl's family is feeling, what the mother is going through.
"I am still human, I have feelings and I can still break down and I did break down."
Reliving the day of the tragedy, the mum said: "I could not believe I sent my son to the bank and it ended in tragedy.
"You feel so helpless."
She added: "I was in shock and my brain felt like a brain fog."
The mum now travels two hours to visit her son in prison every two weeks.
Terrifying clips showed both drivers' "irresponsible and catastrophic actions".
Shocking scenes shows Choudhury being chased by Rahman - who was in a grey BMW 1 series - narrowly missing other cars on the road.
Midway through the pursuit, Choudhury can then be seen reversing down one busy stretch as a man on foot appears to chase after him with an object.
Moments later, Rahman reverses to follow as motorists try to avoid the horrifying scenes.
Shortly after, Choudhury then made the fatal manoeuvre which saw him lose control, crash into another car and then smash into Alisha.
Showing little remorse, Choudhury attempted to flee the scene.
But extensive damage to his car meant he couldn't make the getaway.
He was then held by members of the public until police arrived.
When speaking to an officer shortly after, Choudhury said: “I was driving down the road and I was going too fast because I was trying to get away because these men were chasing me with a knife and now someone has punched me.”
He then asked: "Have I killed someone?”
A part of us died that day too and we all would give anything to have our Alisha back
Alisha's parents
Evidence recovered from Choudhury’s phone showed clips of him brazenly showing off and driving at high speeds on regular occasions.
Rahman was arrested the next day and both of them were charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Alisha's heartbroken parents said "she was everything to us" as they welcomed the judge's verdict.
Their victim personal statement read: "Firstly, we would like to start by thanking the police for their thorough investigation, this has been the most difficult time of our life, knowing Omar Choudhury has killed our daughter and that he has been trying to defend the indefensible.
“Alisha was our first born and was the happiest moment of our life, which was the same day we got the keys to our first house, it was a double celebration.
"She was everything to us and was the reason we woke up everyday and went to work to give us all a better life.
“We are a small, quiet, very private family, we did everything together as a family every Friday was a takeaway and movie night, every Saturday was an eating out night and every Sunday was a walking day out.
"Weekday evenings we always walked to do our shopping, we goofed around, laughed, joked, talked about life goals, told stories of the day and argued during those shopping trips.
“Alisha was the most caring, selfless, sensible person you could meet. She was the glue that kept all the children together, she was always there for her parents and her siblings.
Omar Choudhury and Hamidur Rahman were treating the public highway as their personal race track
Sergeant Louise Warhurst
“The dreadful news of Alisha being killed, not crossing the road but whilst walking on the pavement is hard to take as we always ensured the children all knew about road safety from a young age, little did we know none of that would matter as she was killed in a place you are supposed to be safe, the pavement.
"How are we ever supposed to let our other children walk on the pavement, we don’t let them walk to school very often, we are always worried when they leave for school now.
“Our whole world fell apart. We all cried. A part of us died that day too and we all would give anything to have our Alisha back.”
After sentencing, Sergeant Louise Warhurst said both reckless parties "demonstrated their arrogance by denying their responsibility throughout".
She said: "Alisha was walking along the footpath where she should have been safe.
"Tragically, Omar Choudhury and Hamidur Rahman were treating the public highway as their personal race track with no regard whatsoever for all other members of the public using the roads in Oldham that day.
"Both these men drove dangerously at astonishing speeds because of a petty disagreement.
"They have demonstrated their arrogance by denying their responsibility throughout, each blaming the other, neither willing to accept responsibility for causing Alisha’s death.
"Thankfully, they were both found guilty."
