Man flying from London arrested after landing in Sydney on suspicion of plotting New Year’s Eve terror attack

Police say they were acting on a tip from the public, seizing hard drives and documents at a house in the city

A MAN has been arrested over alleged terror threats to New Year's Eve celebrations in Sydney after arriving in the city on a flight from London.

The 40-year-old man was arrested after leaving the plane at Sydney Airport a flight from London to Sydney.

Police revealed they acted on a tip they had received from the public.

Authorities searched a house in Chippendale, in inner Sydney, and a storage facility, where they seized documents and hard drives, reports

The man was refused bail and charged under Section 31 of the Crimes Act, which relates to making threats to inflict grievous bodily harm.

He will appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.

It comes after seven others were arrested suspected of preparing New Year terror attacks in Moscow on orders from Isis in Syria.

Russia's counter-terrorism agency the FSB said it had arrested the suspects in the North Caucasus province of Dagestan.

The FSB said the suspects were preparing attacks with automatic weapons and explosives in crowded places in the Russian capital.

They are thought to have been detained in Makhachkala, capital of Dagestan, reports the .

And police in south west France have also arrested a man suspected of planning an attack on New Year's eve.

Police said the man arrested in Cugnaux, west of Toulouse, was known to them, reports .

A judicial source said the arrests on Tuesday related to two  separate cases.
