Sources close to the ex-pop star say she is "delighted and humbled for the recognition".

She broke news of it to kids Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 14, Cruz, 11, and Harper, five, on a festive break in the Maldives.

But she has come under fire for for breaching protocol by blabbing before the news is published in official public record, The London Gazette.

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen : "Nominees are sworn to secrecy, so she has broken the first rule of being offered the honour.

"It would appear to be a breach of protocol and perhaps raises questions over her suitability that she has leaked her own nomination. This further discredits our honours system."

Fellow Tory Peter Bone said: "It is certainly a betrayal of etiquette, it is just not done. It is just wrong and I don’t understand why anyone would leak something like that.

"To get an honour is extremely important and it might well be for a very good reason but you just don’t leak it. Full stop."

Victoria found fame as a Spice Girl in 1994 and is now a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Aids project.

She is also a patron of the Elton John Aids Foundation and supports animal charity Peta and Save the Children.

She launched a fashion label in 2008, which sells worldwide.

Her designs are worn by some of the biggest A-list stars including Cameron Diaz and Miranda Kerr.

She said recently: "I'd like people to think of me as someone that wanted to reach women, young or old. I want to empower women."

Victoria’s husband David received an OBE in 2003.

David called it his proudest moment. He said: “That day was special for me because I brought my grandparents with me.

“It made me proud that I could bring them to somewhere that they worshipped for their whole lives.

“Meeting the Queen, it doesn’t get better than that.

“You can feel the emotion, I can personally feel the emotion, because I just love everything about our Queen and what she represents. We all look for role models, we all look for leaders.

“I’m privileged and proud that we have the number one leader.”
