Easyjet passengers forced off plane at Gatwick airport after ground crew accidentally pushed it onto the GRASS where it got stuck

EASYJET passengers hoping to fly to Amsterdam this morning have been forced off their plane after ground crew accidentally pushed it on to grass, where it got stuck.

The passenger who posted the picture tweeted: "Trying to take off at @Gatwick_Airport and the ground crew have pushed our @easyJet aeroplane onto the grass #delayed #oops."

Sophie Thirlwell said the ground crew were unable to move the plane off the grass, so passengers were forced back to the terminal.

A spokesman for easyJet said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY8871, which was due to depart from London Gatwick to Amsterdam this morning, was pushed onto the grass in error during pushback.

“All passengers have disembarked the aircraft and will be departing on an alternative aircraft shortly. We would like to apologise to passengers for the delay.”

A spokesperson for Gatwick Airport said: “An easyJet flight to Amsterdam became stuck on the grass when it pushed back too far from the gate at approximately 9am this morning.

"All passengers have disembarked safely."

The ground crew are employed by easyJet.

Passengers at Heathrow, City and London Airports are also facing delays today due to fog and a technical issue with Air Traffic Control.
