Rishi Sunak vows to beat ‘domestic blockers’ trying to thwart his Rwanda migrant plan
RISHI Sunak took aim at “domestic blockers” trying to thwart the Rwanda plan — as he told the country’s President to get ready for flights.
The PM vowed to end the “merry-go-round” in a bid to stop the boats, which will save taxpayers billions of pounds.
He said he is “making sure there are no more domestic blockers” as ministers draw up new paperwork to declare Rwanda safe after the Supreme Court’s rejection of the scheme as unlawful last month.
He had a meeting with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame at COP28 in the UAE as he prepares to bring in emergency legislation and a new treaty with the country.
He said of the talks: “We’re finalising the arrangements we have with them.
"It was good to check in with him on that and reiterate both of our commitment to making the partnership work.”

The hotel bill for housing the migrants has hit £8million a day — or around £3billion each year.
Mr Sunak had pledged at the start of the year to stop all migrants illegally crossing the Channel and numbers are currently down by a third.
He admitted that “my patience is wearing thin” over the delays to the plan, which he sees as being needed as a “deterrent” to stopping the boats.
He said last night: “We are doing everything right, we will bring forward this legislation, it will be crystal-clear and then I expect to get this scheme up and running.”
