Rampton is home to some of the country’s most dangerous criminals including killer nurse Beverley Allitt, 48. She was dubbed the Angel of Death for murdering four kids in 1991.

The mental health unit in Retford, Notts, is throwing parties for its 390 patients until the New Year. An activity sheet listed pub knockout game “killer pool” on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

A source said: “Who in their right minds would think it’s appropriate to round up the most dangerous criminals and treat them to a game of killer? Rampton seems to be some sort of holiday camp for the evil.

“A lot of people will be horrified to see the list of activities planned at Rampton.

“There are board games, film nights and even Play Your Cards Right. It’s a joke."

After a Freedom of Information request by The Sun the word “killer” was removed.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust admitted: “The senior team at the hospital do not consider it appropriate the word ‘killer’ is used to describe a game of pool, whilst recognising that this language is used elsewhere to describe a knockout tournament.”

Rampton Secure Hospital is one of three in the UK to look after criminals ruled mentally unfit for standard prisons – the other two are Broadmoor and Ashworth.

Current patients include child serial killer Allitt, who was convicted of murdering four kids, attempting to murder three others and causing grievous bodily harm to a further six while working as a nurse at a children’s hospital.

Her 59-day rampage saw her administer large doses of insulin to victims at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital, Lincs, in 1991.

Her youngest victim Liam Taylor was just seven weeks old when he was killed. She was caged for at least 30 years in 1993.

Arsonist Bruce George Lee is also housed there.
