HEAVY LANDING

Dramatic footage shows Flybe jet being blown around by 50mph winds as it lands at Leeds Bradford Airport

THIS is the terrifying moment a plane struggles to land in high winds as Storm Conor battered the UK on Boxing Day.

The video shows a tiny Flybe plane shaking and tilting as it approaches Leeds Bradford Airport before landing safely.

The jet was swaying from side to side as it flew in from Aberdeen to the west Yorkshire airport, which is considered to be very difficult to land at.

Storm Conor swept across the country just after Christmas, bringing high winds which reached up to 94mph in parts of Scotland.

It followed days of disruption after Storm Barbara, which left around 25,000 homes in the north of Scotland without power on Friday.

At its height Barbara saw gusts of 83mph recorded at Sella Ness, Shetland, 79mph at Islay, Argyll, and 75mph at Mona, Anglesey.

However, the strongest gust across exposed mountain sites was 117mph over Cairngorm in the Highlands.

Severe weather warnings were issued this morning as winter is set to return following a spell of mild weather.

Temperatures plummeted to -5C last night with frost and fog blanketing large parts of the UK.

It's expected to linger for several days with driving conditions to be poor.
