A HAPLESS builder has been left £2,000 out of pocket after he bought a Jamie Vardy number plate – but failed to sell it to the footballer.
David McMurray, 28, purchased the personalised registration plate VAR9Y for £4,000 with a view to selling it on to the England star for a tidy profit.
But his plan backfired when he realised he didn't actually know how to contact the Premier League hitman.
Instead, David was forced to put the pricey reg plate on eBay for a starting price of just £500.
The auction closed at 9.44am on Boxing Day with a final price of £2,060 after just 25 bids.
And David has now admitted he knew Vardy already had a personalised licence plate reading J9 VDY on his £130,000 blue Bentley when he bought the plate.
But the Manchester United fan said he still thought the Leicester City hitman would cough up at least £5,000 for the personalised reg.
