The pensioner, 76, was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Crossland when it is understood he took unwell.

His car then collided with three pedestrians, including two children, and two parked cars.

A sea of blue lights descended on the area as emergency workers, first aid volunteers, stadium staff and members of the public all raced to help the injured people.

Medics were seen desperately trying to help an injured person as stewards formed a line in front of them to keep people away.

Tragically, the OAP behind the wheel was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 46-year-old man and two boys, both 12, were rushed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Medics say they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Last night, an onlooker told The Scottish Sun: "I heard screams of help and police just after it happened.

"It's understood a car may have run out of control and hit some people before hitting another vehicle.

"It's believed club officials raced to the scene with paramedics and security staff.

"Some paramedics already at Palmerston for the game got there quickly before police and other ambulance staff arrived."

Police Scotland thanked everyone who got involved in the incident to help the injured people.

A force spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a collision between a car, three pedestrians and two parked cars in a car park at Lochfield Road in Dumfries shortly after 5.50pm on Saturday, 25 November.

“The 76-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall Crossland car involved was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

“The three pedestrians – a man aged 46 and two boys both aged 12, were taken to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

“Officers wish to thank all members of the public for their assistance at the incident.”
