Student, 21, who was centre of a Christmas missing person’s hunt jokes she will ‘divorce mum’ for sparking search
The 21-year-old hasn't been in touch with police and hasn't been seen since 11.30am on Christmas Eve
POLICE are continuing to hunt for a missing student who posted on her Facebook joking she will "divorce" her mum for launching the search.
Isabel Gayther, 21, sparked concern after not turning up at her family's home for Christmas Day.
The student had not been seen or heard from since 11.30am on Saturday.
But messages appeared on her Facebook account yesterday relating to our story about her disappearance suggesting she is fine and fears she "looks like a c***".
Her account wrote: “Am not on my way to Syria or being held hostage. A day and half I'm out of contact and this is what happens??? I AM NOT MISSING peace.”
She then added: “How embarrassing, this is the second time my mum has filed a missing persons report, for a missing person I just keep coming back...
“Now I look like a c***.”
The undergraduate then said: “One word Enmeshment, mother, enmeshment.”
It was followed with a link to an article titled: “Should you divorce your mother?”
Isabel then added: “Oh god how embarrassing, this is the second time my mum has filed a missing persons report.
“For a missing person I just keep coming back...errrr.
“Now I look like a c***...a day and half tho (sic) that's a bit extra.”
She faced backlash on social media from people who urged her to contact her parents.
After being called "selfish" by one user, she replied: "why the f*** do you care?"
She added: "Haven't u got better things to do? Like go to sales or or buy a new tracksuit (sic)".
But the Metropolitan Police continue to investigate her whereabouts and have urged her to get in contact with them.
They said the student's disappearance is "extremely out of character", and that her family are concerned for her safety and wellbeing.
Isabel lives in halls of residence in New Cross, south east London, and has family in Oxford.
She is known to frequent places popular with students in the New Cross and Deptford areas.
The student is described as white, with olive skin and long dark hair and is of a slim build.
She was last seen wearing a dark coloured dress.
Police said it is believed she has her phone with her, but it's unreachable and it is not known if she has access to money or transport.
Lewisham MPS released a statement following the Facebook posts: “We are aware that this morning, Tuesday 27 December, messages have been sent via Isabel's Facebook account.
“At this stage, officers are yet to speak with Isabel. As such, a police investigation continues with the aim of establishing that she is safe and well.
“Isabel is urged to contact police as soon as possible.”
Anyone who has seen Isabel or who knows of her whereabouts should call police on 101.
The disappearance comes after teen Kate Hunter was found three days after vanishing when CCTV showed her with a mystery man.
