Jet Airways plane carrying 161 people skids off runway in Goa while preparing for take-off and leaves 15 people injured
The Indian Navy says it does not yet know what caused the aircraft to veer off the runway
FIFTEEN people are believed to have been left injured after a plane caring 161 passengers skidded off the runway at Goa Airport.
One passenger, B.K. Singh, said there was panic on board as the Jet Airways plane got very bumpy and veered about 200 metres off the runway in the early hours of this morning.
The Indian Navy, which runs the airport in western India, said it was not yet clear what caused the plane to veer off the runway.
In a statement, Jet Airways said the plane, which was bound for the western city of Mumbai, had veered off the runway while aligning for take off.
It added: "Few guests have sustained injuries during the evacuation process and medical assistance is being co-ordinated."
It also confirmed that all passengers had been safely evacuated.

Seven of the 15 injured passengers have been discharged from hospital while the other eight are still being treated.
The airline said none of the injuries were serious.
He said several passengers were hurt when they jumped from the exit and onto the runway.
Jet Airways has resumed normal operations to and from Goa.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation to try and determine what happened.
