Most annoying modern terms revealed including amazeballs and bants – where does your most hated phrase rank?
'Hanky-panky' just missed out on making the top ten, but many Brits would still view it as a total turn-off
OMG, “amazeballs” has been voted the most annoying word in modern culture in a poll of Brits.
The informal adjective — used to describe something extremely good or impressive — topped a list of irritating terms.
One in three (34 per cent) rated amazeballs the worst.
Second was “Holibobs”, meaning holidays.
Third was “awesomeness”.
Another term to make the nation cringe included “LOLZ” — the abbreviated term for laughing out loud.
“Totes”, meaning totally or completely, also made the list.
Eight in ten Brits say certain words and phrases hugely irritate them.
Nearly a fifth admit their opinion of a person who says them goes down.
They also regarded “hanky-panky” (23 per cent) and “nookie” (21 per cent) as turn-offs for a potential partner.
Two thousand people were polled by research agency Perspectus Global.
