A COUPLE live off-grid in a luxury shed they bought for just £5,000 - and say they don't pay rent and have zero debts.

John and Fin Kernohan sold all their belongings to move into their new tiny home, having come together in an internet romance.

The pair met online in 2010 and fell for each other despite the 4,000-mile distance between them, before marrying in 2012.

Fin, 44, was convinced to move from her home city of London to join John in Miami, Florida - and now they have been revealing details about their home transformation and off-grid living.

After giving it a makeover, their 304sq m shed boasts a greenhouse bathroom and a fish pond in the kitchen.

Fin, originally from Thailand, crossed the Atlantic to be with 61-year-old Jon but persuaded him to sell his three-bedroom Miami property before they began work on the shed they bought for £5,000.

The couple then spent almost £4,800 on fittings including furniture and electrics, reported.

They've declared: "It's possible to live off-grid without roughing it."

John said: "Fin made it clear when she came over to the States that she didn't like how big it was - we came to realise being in a small space together was more what we enjoyed.

"When we started out, about six months in, I thought we'd made a mistake because we never had any space - but 12 years on I love the small space and can't imagine living differently."

Former Londoner Fin told Jon how she loved "the man you are when we're out in the woods".

They first leased a plot of land for £950 before buying their what became their dream cabin in rural Georgia, in America's Deep South.

The property is now powered by solar and thermal energy, as well as featuring a kitchen pond containing seven Koi carp and eight more tropical fish.

They have since expanded to own 16 acres of land, including holiday homes they rent out on Airbnb - earning between £2,400 and £4,000 per month.

Fin said: "Every single morning when I get up, I'm like, 'Man, I am living a dream' - this is how I envisioned I'd live my life."

Elsewhere, a woodland community in Somerset has just been hailed for its off-grid benefits.

Another isolated traveller told of surviving on rainwater, while a young environmental worker has set up home in a £200 wagon.

A family quitting city life for a new base in Lancashire woodland have also explained how they've done so.

And a DIY whizz told how he now lives full-time in an old school bus converted into a home with its own shower and kitchen.
