As Rachel Reeves calls on the international community to put pressure on Hamas to release hostages

It currently backs the Government’s stance of demanding humanitarian pauses.

Ahead of a Commons debate on the King’s Speech today, it says it is “not going to be engaging” with an SNP amendment demanding the fighting ends.

Instead, Labour will put forward its own amendment highlighting the lack of action by Hamas to release hostages, insufficient aid and utilities getting in, and the scale of civilian casualties in Gaza.

Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle will decide today as to what will be voted on.

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves yesterday called on the international community to come together and put pressure on Hamas to release the hostages.

A party spokesman said: “Labour’s amendment reaffirms the position set out in Keir Starmer’s Chatham House speech and reflects our concerns about what we’ve seen on the ground in the last fortnight, which includes the lack of hostage release, the insufficient amount of aid and utilities getting in and being distributed, the scale of civilian casualties in Gaza and the amount of violence on the West Bank.”

Meanwhile, Jeremy Corbyn has provoked fury over refusing to say whether Hamas is a terrorist organisation in an angry exchange with telly host Piers Morgan.

The ex-Labour leader wouldn’t outline the organisation’s status FIFTEEN times when he was grilled on the TalkTV show.
