Inside Daniel Craig’s plans to demolish Grade II-listed home’s conservatory as he extends £6m mansion with Rachel Weisz

The Bond star could be set for a showdown with town hall bosses

DANIEL Craig is set to demolish the conservatory at the £6m Grade II listed mansion he shares with his actress wife Rachel Weisz.

Craig and his Oscar-winning actress wife now want to demolish a 'poorly-constructed' conservatory at their North London home.

The couple also want to to move the kitchen from the front to the back of the house and split the ground floor double reception room into two.

However the Grade II listed property lies in a designated conservation area, and the plans could bring the former Bond star into conflict with town planners and neighbours.

The design statement put in by the couple's agent reads:"The proposed new extension would replace an existing late 20th Century conservatory which is poorly constructed, inefficient (it is very cold in the winter and overheats in the summer) and out of keeping with the original building.

"This would mean that the least successful part of the existing building (in terms of materials, form and proportion) could be re-cast so that it is elevated to a quality equal to the rest of the property.

"The enlarged extension allows the kitchen (the busiest room in the house) to be relocated to the rear of the property, giving it direct contact with the garden and much improved natural light.

"On the ground floor it is proposed to reinstate the wall between the two reception rooms to create a formal sitting room and separate TV room.

"On the ground floor closet wing, the existing study would be subdivided to allow the provision of a guest WC on the stair landing between the ground floor and lower ground floor.

"Elsewhere, the majority of the existing building fabric will be left untouched by the proposed scheme.

"The reconfigured accommodation resulting from this proposal would improve the balance of the main living areas of the house.

"Overall, the impact of the subject property and its surroundings would be positive."

Camden Council is set to make a decision later this year. No objections have been made by neighbours.

If the plans are approved work could start in April next year. Jenna Coleman, singer Craig David, former Foreign Secretary David Miliband and comedian Julian Clary live nearby.

Craig moved on from the Bond role two years ago after a highly successful stint as 007.

The producers of the famous franchise have not yet revealed who will play Bond in the next film, leading to fevered speculation.

Producer Barbara Broccoli said there is “a big road ahead” before the character was “reinvented for the next chapter."
