Nail-biting video shows the planes being rocked from side to side as they come into land at Leeds Bradford International airport.

One plane lurches on to its side as it approaches the runway at the busy airport before bumpily touching down on the tarmac.

As the wheels reach the ground, it is pulled to one side before the pilot manages to get it straight again.

Another plane violently swings from side to side as it appears from the murky-looking sky.

As it gets closer to the tarmac, it starts rocking forward as the pilot attempts to land.

The Met Office said winds in the area reached up to 41mph.

The dramatic video comes as Storm Barbara lashed the UK today with hurricane force winds and rain.

More than 100 schools in Scotland were closed as 90mph winds tore through the country on the last day of term before Christmas.

The Met Office has issued weather warnings for northern and western parts of Scotland for this afternoon, evening and overnight into Christmas Eve.

This could be followed by thunder, lightning and wintry showers.

Two separate yellow wind warnings are in place, one covering northern parts of the UK where gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected.

The other is for more southern areas, where a narrow and intense band of heavy rain and gusty winds could lead to some disruption.

A yellow wind warning is also in place for Christmas Day covering Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England.

This is due to a new Atlantic weather system, forecast to bring gusts of 50 to 60mph.

A freak phenomenon called "thundersnow", when lightning illuminates snow flurries, has also been predicted to hit Scotland over the Christmas break.
