A rank perversion of justice that hero veterans are charged with the death of a known IRA terrorist and killer

A SLAP in the face for all victims of IRA atrocities. A terrible ordeal for our military heroes. A rank perversion of justice.

It beggars belief that two distinguished veterans are being charged with the killing of Joe McCann.

McCann was a notorious IRA gunman. He worked closely with Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams and was involved in the murder of a corporal in the Royal Green Jackets and the attempted assassination of an Ulster Unionist MP.

McCann was shot by paratroopers as he tried to escape capture by cops.

At the time he was top of the most wanted list.

IRA Commander Joe McCann was shot 44 years ago

These soldiers suspected McCann was armed and acted fast to prevent a known terrorist and killer remaining free to commit further atrocities. We can only imagine how many other lives he would have ruined had he got away.

This case rams home the utter absurdity of the witch-hunt taking place in Northern Ireland.

While many IRA terrorists have been freed and their crimes forgotten, British soldiers who acted chiefly in the interest of preserving peace are being dragged through the courts in their old age.

The Government has the power to step in and stop this madness. It must do so now.

Faith in Charles

IT is shamefully unfashionable to discuss the hideous persecution of Christians around the world.

Credit therefore to Prince Charles for his impassioned words yesterday.

As many as 200million, or one in ten. Christians in over 60 countries face regular restriction, discrimination or full-blown persecution.

The barbaric attacks by IS thugs generate headlines, but Christians are routinely targeted in less anarchic states such as China, Nigeria and India — yet we hear little outrage from world leaders.

Charles had been hesitant on the monarch’s role defending Christianity, so it’s welcome he used this rare radio appearance to raise such an underreported issue.

Ban the bullies

Thousands of London Underground workers are planning to strike in a row over jobs

THIS is what happens when you don’t confront bullies.

London Tube workers and cleaners on Great Western trains have become the latest to go on strike.

We implored the PM to stand up to the militant unions grinding the country to a halt. But Mrs May ruled out action fearing it would look “vindictive”.

Vindictive is forcing this misery on Brits at Christmas — and No10’s hesitation only encourages more to down tools without fear of reprisal.

It’s time to act, PM.
