Scrooge council gives 100 workers the boot just days before Christmas to scrimp on spending
A MASS sacking has thrown nearly 100 employees on the scrap heap ...just as in time for Christmas.
Oxfordshire County Council has confirmed it was axing more than 90 staff.
The staff received the bombshell news on Wednesday at 12pm.
A council staff member claimed there was now “a crisis” in morale.
They said: “The restructuring process has caused people a huge amount of stress.
“Most were interviewed in October or November but are only finding out today if they will still have a job, just days before Christmas.
“It is going to have a huge impact on communities and morale is on the floor.
“I am a long-term employee and have seen lots of these situations, but this is the worst.”
The Tory-run council has made £7 million of cuts this year after slashing £50m in 2015.
It is attempting to claw back £377m over a ten year period until 2020.
Families have been hit by 31 of the 44 children’s centres closing by next April.
